Salida Colorado

Nestled in the heart of the Rocky Mountains, not only does Salida offer world class fencing, but access to some of the best outdoor recreation in the country. Visiting fencers are welcome to practice and fight with us at our dedicated training facility. SHFC partners with the Salida Hostel to provide affordable accommodations only minutes from our training space and the best recreation in the state.

The Upper Arkansas River runs directly through town and provides some of the most thrilling whitewater rafting and kayaking in the western US. A play park is featured as the centerpiece of our downtown district.

Salida and the surrounding areas are connected by an extensive system of gravel and mountain bike trails. Many are accessible from town and begin just outside city limits.

Monarch Mountain ski area rests on the Continental Divide, less than 30 minutes from Salida. Despite its size, the mountain features varied terrain on natural snow for all skill levels. Backcountry enthusiasts will also find many wonderful slopes nearby. Give a dog sled or snowmobiling tour a go while you're at it.

Salida borders vast tracts of National Forest and BLM land that are perfect to get away from the hustle of city life. Colorado Parks & Wildlife also maintains a number of designated campgrounds within the Upper Arkansas River Valley.

Surrounded by the Sawatch, Sangre de Cristo, and Mosquito mountain ranges, Salida serves as the access points for many spectacular hiking trails. Whether or not you like 14ers, glacial valleys, alpine lakes, ghost towns, or merely a stop along the Continental Divide Trail, we've got it.
